Perfect for photographers and photo journalists, F8 Remix is a premium theme created by GraphPaperPress. This theme jumps at you and screams “look at me”. The color schema is simply black, white with accents of red. F8 Remixed has no fancy header graphics, fading backgrounds nor shiny icons. It plainly lets the photos speak for themselves. And the more intense the photos – the louder they speak. This theme is like reading TIME magazine – the Year In Pictures edition. I am assuming the name “F8″ is from the aperture setting; or from the term: “F.8 and be there” which means “being at the right place at the right time“.

You can’t miss the huge feature photo in the home page. It spans 90% if the content - a whopping 950 pixels! The post title and excerpt is a nice overlay on the image itself with a black translucent background.  Once clicked, takes you to the post detail where the full size of the image is shown along with the full post content. The menu navigation is a simple black bar with extra padding and light fonts for an added sleek feel.

A “more inside“ tab is at the upper right bar of all pages. When clicked, content magically appears in black background. This is more of a summary of your site’s content with a large customizable text for your sites main message. Along with it are your latest posts in thumbnails and optional widgets in the bottom.  

F8 Remix uses three even columns for the home page, but shrinks to single for the inner pages. This is something unique to this theme. In addition, there are no spots for advertising nor is there a search form – it doesn’t belong in this type of website anyway.

The problem I foresee with this theme is that it will not look good if your photos are no good. But then again, if your photos are no good – what are you doing with a portfolio site anyway?

Regardless, one thing is for sure. It is quite refreshing to see a photo website with no Flash.
