Modularity

Modularity by Graphpaperpress is a beautiful theme that pulls out the power of photo blogging. Photo blogging is simply put: blogging through pictures. The theme is scaled to the full 1000 pixels that will sure look good in most modern resolutions. The color scheme is pure black and grey with hints of bright blue by default. The theme uses 2 main columns for home and inner pages. The right sidebar changes from latest posts with a large thumbnail in the home page, to the traditional widgetized sidebar in the inner pages. It has an extended footer that is also widgetized – where you see the bright blue hints I mentioned (which can be changed).

Unique Features:

Unique Slideshow – This HUGE slideshow in the home page are random images from your image gallery. This works well for your best shots that is not necessarily tied to a specific post. Its just a good basic slideshow.
Unique Posts slider – Right below the slideshow is a “Mac-style” content scroller / slider – that shows thumbnails with an overlay of the title of your latest posts. This effect is rarely seen in other themes which especially works if you want something different.
Unique Navigation – Modularity has a unique, compact drop-down list for your categories, pages, subscription and contact information. Once again, something you don’t see very often from other wordpress sites.

Other Features:

Welcome box – Modularity has the ability to plug in a Welcome box right in the home page. This can be controlled via the control panel
Height of the Slideshow – Think the slideshow is too tall? The height can be adjusted to your liking. The width stays the same – which is good
Layouts and colors – elements such as page background, borders and link colors can be customized right in the options panel

Who this theme is for:

It is obvious to say: that Modularity is only as good as the photos you display. It is a clever design that will only compliment the quality of your images. If your images are so so – the website is also – so so. So this theme will only work for Photographers, Photo Journalists or anyone that wants to blog through their pictures. Note that we’re not talking about regular pictures taken from a cell phone camera that has been resized to match the slideshow aspect ratio.

You can test drive Modularity from this Link. GraphPaperPress sells Modularity for $75 single use, and $199 developers.

Not that I’m totally impressed, but this is more than I expected for when I stumpled upon a link on SU telling that the info is quite decent. Thanks.

This a great theme and a great review although I’ve been using it for a while and am struggling with adding a background image to the site? you mention in the review that it can be done in the options menu? am I being stupid? cheers!
