Advertisements

We all know that Hulu doesn’t contain any advertising banners in its pages (an occasional top banner when watching a video). Don’t get me wrong – I think Hulu is designed very well. Although comparing it eVid, Hulu just seems too plain. eVid’s background elements: the fades and subtle shadows are very tastefully done. The color schema is excellent – predominant grades of grey and hints of Web 2.0 blue. The use of transparent overlays within the video containers are very nice. Management of space is better in eVid -where things are more compressed together, giving your site a fuller look. Fontology is better – even though Hulu utilizes SIFR for their headings. *SIFR is the use of flash as fonts.

Combined Blog and Video Functionalities

Since eVid is powered by Wordpress – the theme combined the video interface with additional blog functionalities:

• Rating System – a built in star rating system (may require additional plugin)
• Related Videos – link related topics / videos right in the video player
• Share This – ability to share to other social networks
• Tags – view the video tags right from the player

Of course, on top of that – you can write an entire post, as well as include an image for the video you’re posting. That’s something you don’t see from Hulu.

So if you’re planning to overturn Hulu by running a video website, this theme may take you there. Now all you need are better videos – that’s where that task begins.
