Revolution Chrome is a premium theme designed by Jason Schuller for Revolution Two.
At first glance – you may think that Revolution Chrome is just too plain. But if you look closely you will notice that it is filled with Photoshop and CSS mastery that it had to have taken some time to build. Let me explain:
The Fades, Shadows – all that Jazz
First example is the menu for the categories. You will notice that for the separator in each item – a custom image is used. A fine thin line that fades upwards – is actually an image that is repeated in the background for every category. The effect may be subtle – but it does look good especially to those who pay attention to details. Second is the background imagery. The entire page is literally cut in half, with a fading grey in the right side that accentuates the main content area. Once again, you see the use of subtle fades that actually produce good results. You will also see the heading backgrounds for the post and page titles, bread crumbs and reply box. They’re presented in a rounded semi-glossy bar that looks like it gets tucked away once it reaches the sidebar. I think this is done in great taste, not “too much”, nor “too little”.

In addition, the header graphic is a smooth faded block that introduces the theme’s chrome look. Alongside the header is an “etched” RSS icon that adds to that “steel” feeling to the page. Directly below is a sunken search field that blends with the rest of the theme.

The Sweet Effects
In the home page you will notice a mid-sized content slider. Not the ordinary slider you see elsewhere – this one’s got the post title and description hovering vertically in the mid-right section of the image. It has a semi-transparent background so it doesn’t really obstruct the photo behind it. The large next and previous navigation arrows are designed to match the rest of the theme.

The Featured Photos section right below the content slider seems like a regular feed of photos. Once clicked – it pops out at you right in the middle of the page. It’s a nice little perk for your users to view your photos without having to leave the current page. One bug I noticed though is where the z-index of the pop up photo seems to be off. The latest video stays on top of the pop up image. Other than that, I think the overall effects of the home page is well done.
Other Features
Navigation supports multi level for both pages and categories. The sidebar is fully widgetized. The Comments template support Gravatars along with alternating background colors for the response entries. Unlimited theme support and excellent documentation is included.
