Papercut

Papercut is a gorgeous and grungy premium theme originally designed by Liam McKay, produced by the folks at Woothemes. Random yet organized, unexpected but well-planned – Papercut will sure give your website its own distinct persona. Since grunge is a widely preferred style these days (in clothing, music, videos), why should your website be any different? This subtle earth tone skin is certain to gain added popularity for blog owners everywhere. Let me tell you why:

Moods

Papercut is packed with its own moods. These are CSS options that include small changes in the backgrounds and colors that allow your site to “shift” personalities; hence “Moods”: Default is spontaneous out of the box. Feel a little girly? Well the Floral CSS is right for you. You like that “printed” feel – the “Newspaper” option is what you need. The “Red-Print’ gives the theme nostalgia, while the “Wood” style adds a 3-d look to the page.

Hand Drawn Borders, Textures and Fontology

One thing that attracts me to this theme is its’ perfect blend of web elements that create this type of harmony. For instance, you will notice the generous use of hand drawn borders. This especially works for a grunge theme because it gives it that “penciled – in” look. Also note the very light textures in the backgrounds. This may go unnoticed to many but squint your eyes and you will see container edges are not solid colors, but rather textured images. The mixture of different font families, cases and colors work really well with the theme’s overall style. Combine all these elements up and you get one synchronized grunge design.

Also worth the mention is the header. I love the “torn-paper” edge that marks the end of the header navigation. The categories with the descriptions is also a nice touch. The page navigation with uppercase “Times” fonts, including the subscribe links to the right side accentuates the header even more.
