Foliotastic is a Wordpress theme from ThemeSnack. This is ThemeSnack’s first stab at WP themes and I must say that it is quite impressive. Impressive because it has a tad of everything: options, actions and still look good!

Just a tad of options!

Unlike other premium themes that give you too many options – Foliotastic kept it simple; and in many ways better. Its options allow for setting things like introduction text, logo, twitter settings and categories that show up in the templates (which is all you really need). Also included are five theme colors to choose from, and an embedded #HEX color picker – where you can customize the theme elements to your liking.

Just a tad of actions

I love the Javascript actions on this theme! They’re very smooth and swift, and well orchestrated. What do I mean? Start moving your mouse across the homepage – you will see things start “swooshing”. It’s not so much for amusement, but more of purpose. For instance, the images have this effect that shows you the related post information such as the title, category, number of comments as well as the post excerpt – but only on hover! I think it’s a genius way of presenting your posts through photographs. Also note the tab for the Blog entries. This presents a scrollable view of your most recent posts. Once again, the previous and next scrollers appear only on focus – which is very nice.

Of course the multi level navigation, also with some javascript – blends along with the rest of the actions in the theme.

Aesthetics

This theme looks good straight out of the box. Additionally, if you activate options such as the flickr and twitter feeds – it just keeps getting better. Spacing is excellent – notice how elements are lined up in a grid perfectly. Fonts are consistent while use of icons is just the right amount. I love how simple and clean the inner pages look, for example the category and the multi-tiered comments. Overall, the theme’s aesthetics is of high quality. All is coherent, clear-cut and well planned.

Finally, other features include: an automated image resizer, custom CForms styling as well as support for widgets and gravatars. Excellent documentation is included and the original .psd files for further customization. Foliotastic sells for $30 in ThemeForest.
