It is possible that the show of force by the United States was the only way to ensure a quick resolution to the fighting in the Pacific or it could be argued that Japan was inhumanely and unjustifiably used as an experiment on the world stage. Much of the facts and communications between important players are laid out in archives and historical records but it is up to the individual to draw his or her own conclusions on the justification of the paths chosen by the parties involved.
